Dr.Hauschka Skin Care
The WALA Garden The 11 acres of Medicinal Gardens at WALA's property in Southern Germany, have been Biodynamically managed for 45 years. Biodynamic agriculture was initiated by a group of farmers in the 1920's who were confronted with poor crop yields and deteriorated soil quality.

To solve their problem, the farmers turned to the Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner who presented suggestions for developing beneficial agricultural practices. These practices evolved into Biodynamics: a thoughtful and practical form of farming that restores and revitalises the soil.

Biodynamic agriculture is an holistic practice. It considers all living systems, from the animal kingdom through to the movements of the solar system, all of which are integral parts of a greater whole. Steiner discovered that the Earth's soil could be enlivened through human attentiveness and the careful observation of Nature's rhythms.

Biodynamic farming restores and revitalises the soil. At WALA, working hands replace mechanical equipment; the gardeners here till the soil, turn the compost and harvest plants with the loving attention that machinery cannot offer.

Specially prepared Biodynamic solutions, similar to Homeopathic preparations, enliven the compost and soil and bring out the radiance in young plants. To protect maturing plants, gardeners rely on Nature (Ladybirds and other friendly insects) rather than dangerous synthetic pesticides. The objective in the gardens is to create and maintain such a balanced, harmonious, healthy ecosystem that disease and damaging intruders are kept at bay.

The Rhythms of Nature dictate the planting and harvesting schedules; moon cycles and seasonal cosmic influences also play an important role in all aspects of life in the gardens.

These Biodynamic practices create healthier plants and heal the Earth for generations to come.

The WALA Heilmittel gardens are both intense and beautiful. The process of creating effective skin care begins in the gardens, but more importantly, the gardens act as a catalyst, prompting us to reassess our relationship to Nature, the World and the Universe.
