In the search for new ways of preparing natural medicines, the suggestion from Dr. Rudolf Steiner, "Study Rhythms. Rhythm carries Life." fell on fertile ground.
Dr. Rudolf Hauschka, the founder of WALA, succeeded in preparing a water based plant extract which would keep for many years without the addition of preservatives.
He achieved this by incorporating Nature's Rhythms into his manufacturing process. Thus, in 1929 he prepared a water based Rose extract which would keep for more than 30 years.
The medicines prepared by Dr. Hauschka from these water based plant extracts were so well received by doctors that in 1953 the first WALA laboratory was founded in Germany.
This rhythmical processing methodology gave the newly founded company its name: WALA is an acronym of these procedures Warmth-Ash Light-Ash.

Dr.Hauschka Skin Care was developed some forty years ago on the basis of the knowledge gained in the production of WALA Medicines.
Dr. Rudolf Hauschka dedicated himself to the task of bringing healing to the Earth and to Mankind.
His work inspired the cosmetologist Elizabeth Sigmund who was committed to creating safe, effective and natural skin care products, she packed her bags and left her home in Stockholm for Eckwälden.
A colourful mix of people – pharmacists, chemists, anthroposophical physicians and Elisabeth Sigmund – came together in a phase of intense productivity to develop the new ‘WALA’ skin care products.
In 1967 their time had arrived: The basic Dr.Hauschka Skin Care range appeared on the market. The collection they unveiled included a Rose Day Cream, a Cleansing Cream and a Facial Toner.
